New Feature : Email System Visibility and Managment

Today's Feature: E-Mail Management

Why?

We attempt to send between 1,500 and 2,000 e-mails out per day. So, it is clear that we rely heavily on e-mail as our primary form of communication to carriers, shippers, consignees, docks, employees, customers, for every department. Until now there has been little to no visibility into how many of these e-mails are actually sent, and how many fail.

Who?

Developers will be one of the primary users, because they will be checking this every once in a while to ensure their applications are setting up e-mails properly.

Helpdesk experts might monitor this at times to proactively identify and eliminate helpdesk tickets before they happen.

What?

When trying to put visiblity into a system like this, there are two levels of detail that are useful.

Dashboard Gadget (Summary)

Fairly self-explanatory...this just tells you if there are any e-mails in the queue, which usually means that the e-mail service is not running, so this number should always be zero, or if it has a number, when you refresh, it should be zero. "E-mails errored" is the most important piece of data here. This should obviously be zero as well, but, when it isn't, the second part of the e-mail managment and visibility system comes into play...

Manage (Full Details)

This page is also very self-explanatory...it will allow you to view the errored e-mails, identify why it errored, fix the issue, and set it back in the queue.
